310 from Moscow (Russia): “New places and interesting people.”

My artist name 310 comes from the cyrillic letters «ЗЛО» which mean evil. It was relevant when my work was a lot of bombing. I started painting on the streets in 1997. At this time on the streets of Moscow there was absolutely no Graffiti. I saw an article in a magazine and it inspired me.

Graffiti to me is a lifestyle. It is my hobby and work. My whole life is connected with painting.

Meeting of Styles?

This is a great event, total communication. Sadly in Russia it does not happen.

Social media?

This is global communication, you can watch and learn, be inspired by ideas and it’s cool. But it’s not cool that now the whole point of Graffiti comes down to simply putting a photo with a piece on the web. When I started we could go through the whole city to see a new piece. And it was really cool. I like to see Graffiti on the streets more than on the Internet

Inspirations?

Life in the city inspires me. New places and interesting people.

Street art, big scale muralismo?

Muralism is not a new story. It appeared a long time ago like the school and the traditions of mexican muralists. In Russia we have monumental propaganda since the time of constructivists. Now it is experiencing a new wave and it’s cool. Better advertising, pure art. Unloved when corporations use it for their own purposes, but we live in the era of capitalism. Now street art is everywhere. Everyone can declare themselves or say something on the street.

Dislike about Graffiti

This is an example from the local Moscow scene. In Graffiti there is no respect for each other. All overlap each other instead of painting in new places.

Love about Graffiti

These are the new city galleries on the streets. An element of new urbanism that lives its own life
