My name is Rosalie de Graaf, young artist from Holland by the name “RoosArt”. I started painting at the age of fourteen and I have not stopped making art since. I painted my first wall only two years ago at the age of eighteen but I loved working with spray paint and decided to start my own career.
I mainly make street art and realistic oil paintings, but I also focus on designing tattoos, clothing, websites, digital design and more. I won the award for best young entrepreneur 2019 in the Netherlands.
At the age of fourteen I already did a lot of commissioned work for people, businesses and organizations. I made money with painting and decided to quit my medical career. Before I wanted to become a doctor, but making art more and more became my passion. It’s something that I want to give my undivided attention to.
Why waste your time in a career that doesn’t make you happy? By doing what you love, success will follow. Now I travel across the world with my art. I wanted to become a great artist and show to others that street art and graffiti is not only meant for men. I had my first art exhibition in Holland in September 2018 and my painting of president Putin and Trump kissing went viral. In the same month I got nominated for the Street Art Awards Benelux 2018. I ended up in the top 5 of the category ”People’s favorite”, an exciting achievement. I regularly appear in Dutch newspapers, radio and television shows. I got to travel to Asia and collaborated with big artists. I also did an art show in Bali together with Rony Indô, an French-Indonesian prince. I made two movies: one short film in Kuala Lumpur and one film in Bali. In June 2019 Dutch mobile data company collaborated with RoosArt and made me one of the faces of their new campaign called ”Online Heroes”.
In December 2019 I won my biggest price so far. I won ”the Best Young Entrepreneur award 2019” (the Netherlands). RoosArt is now a growing business and spreading around the world. My paintings are very realistic. I love to paint portraits and use a lot of warm and cool colors (pink and blue) andI love adding a girly touch to my art so it stands out. I don’t really have my own style yet. I just like to experiment and paint all kinds of things. Street art is my life. I paint almost every day.
I really like the business side to it. I’m always working on new projects and want to grow my business more and more. I love to paint and travel at the same time. Going to graffiti and street art festivals is the perfect way to do both. I love to meet other artists and collab with them. A nice way to get inspired as well! I’m excited to join MOS Germany! Almost one year ago my mother passed away at age 49. I lost a lot of people in my family who inspired me to live my life to the fullest. I have a fearless spirit that’s allowes me to be creative (no limits). This is my inspiration. I want to make bigger and bigger paintings… The biggest wall I did so far is about 130 square meters.
I want to paint a big flat/apartment building and go bigger and bigger. I think that art in general is an underutilized tool of communication. Street art especially, because it’s out in the public space. It’s able to create a dialogue about what’s going on in the world. The piece that I made about Trump and Putin is a great example. You can tell a story. As a street artist I can design a part of the landscape of a city, which is so amazing to me. Graffiti is often seen as vandalism. To a lot of people, Graffiti is scrawls on the wall and defacement of property. To me it’s a form of artistic expression. It’s a way to shine a light on larger issues that stretch beyond my city’s borders.
I want to help remove the stigma of the medium. Being a “normal” girl with a past like me helps to show that street art is not only the work of unruly hooligans with a disrespect for the city they live in. Indeed I have the power to change the face of a city street. That’s what I love so much about my job. I want to be productive, I want inspire others and I want to succeed. By doing what you love, success will follow.
