Unexpected forces tried to hold us back this year. Challenges emerged that seemed intent on disrupting the MOS before it even began. What started as simple logistical issues — like a full pallet of spray cans disappearing right before loading and reappearing only after the ship had already been sealed — quickly grew into more.

And as if the difficulties on the ground weren’t enough, nature added its weight. Hurricane Melissa hit western Jamaica hard, damaging entire communities and leaving many without homes or a sense of security. The impact was felt by all of us.

Under these conditions, holding onto a vision felt almost impossible. There were moments when the path ahead looked blurred, when the doubt crept in and whispered that this year might be lost. But after searching our hearts, speaking honestly within our team, and listening to the people around us, we made a choice: We will not retreat.

We remembered why we do this: to bring Healing Thoughts Through Art. To create moments of beauty where there is pain, and moments of color where everything feels grey. Our local partner, the Tivoli Mural Project, stood beside us and reminded us: “People now need vision and inspiration more than ever.”

And they were right. With the patronage of the German Embassy in Kingston, and the support of several embassies who believe in what art can do for a community, we are humbled and grateful that we can still move forward — bringing international artists together with jamaican artists to uplift and beautify the communities.

Yes, recent events forced some artists to withdraw at the last minute. Yes, we had to downscale our most ambitious plans. But still — the heart of the mission beats strong.

           

Despite everything that tried to hold us back, we stand blessed: Blessed to gather artists. Blessed to share inspiration. Blessed to bring culture and color where they are needed most. Sometimes the vision grows even clearer when the world tries hardest to blur it.

Tivoli Mural Projetc presents Meeting of Styles 20+ international guests meet and link up with 20+ jamaican artists for workshops, live painting and performances. Walls and spots located around Bumpspark, Keith Avenue, Tivoli Gardens
