My artistic style began with surrealism and automatism which have always been great influences for me. I take inspiration from meditative and trance states. Chinese brush painting, Calligraphy and abstract art are two art forms that I always refer back to when creating. The subjective experience of life and a philosophical or numinous paradigm also inform my work as I try to paint the inside of the mind outside.
About five years ago I really began to focus on it as an art form and began to try and blend it into my automatic works.
I love pattern making and the nature of the tools of calligraphy have lent themselves well to my work in this respect.
I have always loved the process of making a mark on something, how it draws your focus into the present moment. Through this I find that my work becomes a meditation.
After finishing my degree in Illustration I have worked in numerous areas of the arts. I have worked in screen printing, graphic design, illustration and in my current practice I paint murals, canvases and do tattooing.
