ZAMKOS

My name is Giannis Zamkos. I was born and raised in Kozani where I also started painting almost 15 years ago. Drawing and painting was my way to understand the world and following my school years I realised art was calling me.
Starting up, I experimented with anything I could get my hands on: lettering, characters, graffiti, landscapes, portait of friends, relatives, random people, their dogs, trying to portray whatever could be portrayed. Soon, I realised that realism was my favourite style. Using photos as the starting point for my paintings taught me the beauty of natural composition. Following, my realistic approach was substituted by a combination of a photography-influenced approach with different styles and techniques as secondary elements that allowed me to uniquely express myself, at the time.

Altogether, I feel blessed to be able to use painting as a way to understanding both me and the world. My search for new styles and forms of self-expression has been taking me from one adventure to another, made me travel the world, communicate with people I would never have, and meet extremely creative people that challenge the world whilst having the time of their lives.For me, art is a form of communication,a way of living and a sense of home.
