Shapla Singha has been working as a visual artist and faculty member under the Drawing and Painting discipline in the Fine Arts School of Khulna University. Currently, she holds the position of assistant professor in the department. Her first solo painting exhibition was held at the renowned ‘Birla Academy of Art and Culture’, Kolkata, India. She has participated in more than 30 exhibitions nationally and internationally, and she has been awarded too. She secured the merit position during her Master’s Degree in Visual Arts with a focus in painting from Rabindra Bharati University (India) in 2019 (Session 2017-2019). Previously, she achieved the merit position and was awarded the bachelor’s degree in ‘Drawing and Painting’ from Khulna University, Bangladesh, in 2016 (Session 2011–2012). Bangladesh is a country where art has made a significant contribution to the way the country was shaped. As a promising Bangladeshi artist, on the occasion of the 50th Independence Day celebration on December 15th, 2020, she came up with the concept of “Shilpa Bangla an online platform ( https://shilpabangla.com/) where she is showcasing various innovative arts and crafts of Bangladesh. This platform also acts as an online community for people who love and appreciate art. She also had several international work experiences in countries like India, Sri Lanka, China, and Thailand as an invited young artist, and in this way, she derived a working opportunity in multi-cultural environments. In fact, one of her best works (the message for peace), which she painted on the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), earned high appreciation from the Chinese Embassy of Bangladesh, and later she was awarded the ’Dreamland China Appreciation Award’ for that masterpiece. She has immense interest in being engaged in innovative and transformative research on folk culture and art, focusing on hands-on training and learning styles to create comfortable and interactive learning environments for all students. She also has a great interest in creative teaching and painting on environmental, socio-economic, and conservation issues. In particular, she envisages the plan to be engaged in further studies and research in the fields of art histories, curating, exhibiting, siting, and heritage; spatial practices; digital art; photography; cultural evolution of the arts; folklore histories; and the evolution and trends of rural art and practices in Bangladesh.
