Sake One
Born in 1969 in El Paso, Texas, two-time EMMY Award-winning artist Sake, began his art career with inspiration from New York City’s subway Aerosol Style Writing Movement. In 1982, Sake became one of the first Style Writers/ Aerosol artists in California and is now well-known internationally.
Sake’s reputation as a serious artist grew out of respect for his technical skill, creating his first portrait with spray paint in 1986 and followed with a realistic Jet Ski racer. This started a new direction for the newly formed aerosol art movement. Sake is one of the fathers of painting portraits with spray paint, which created a movement within the art form and is still in practice to this day with thousands of participants
He received two Emmy Awards in 1991 for his spray paint work for the Fox Network. Sake has received numerous awards; in addition to the two National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmys, he has been a Sega national contest winner for “Graffiti is Art” (2000); received I.P. Gallery’s Best Show “Lock Down” (1997); Vogue Magazine’s Best Street Design for Stoopid Clothing by Sake (1993); and received the N.I.T.V. Indie Award (1991). He has been profiled in numerous publications around the world.
His life is Art. He has been an Aerosol artist since 1982, a sign painter, tattoo artist, graphic designer, oil & acrylic painter, including commercial work, sculptural and installation/ conceptual works. His objective with each piece is to improve environments and landscapes with creativity and inspire others in the process. He is very motivated by the community impact of his work and for the last 3 decades dedicated his time to instructing kids and adults on the process of wild style lettering and the history of Hip Hop Culture along with the style writing movement. He was featured in the book, “The History of American Graffiti,” and currently works out of a home-based studio in San Diego, California. Over the years, Sake has had many museum shows and multiple dozens of exhibitions locally, across the U.S., and internationally.
