I’m Red Meteor, originally from Mexico City.
My relationship with graffiti began in 1997, when I was just 10 years old. Since I was a child, I’d been passionate about drawing and intrigued by the few graffiti I saw on the streets. I wondered who the people were who painted the walls and felt the need for others to see my drawings as well, to express myself beyond the paper.
From the beginning, I sought to do something different from what predominated on the streets, where letters were the most common. My perspective changed radically when I discovered European magazines and international icons like Daim in Germany, as well as the creative force of the English and French scenes. However, it was when I discovered the work of Os Gemeos in Brazil and the legendary videos of Dirty Hands that I understood the true dimension of what could be achieved in public spaces.
I am self-taught, although I also have a background in graphic design. Throughout my career, I’ve explored different techniques: oil, gouache, acrylics, and, more recently, digital. All of this has allowed me to expand my visual language and enrich my practice.
The graffiti I discovered in the 1990s has evolved profoundly: the materials, codes, and dynamics have changed. However, what remains intact in me is the passion for painting for the simple sake of it. I paint for myself, not for likes or the immediacy of social media. I belong to a generation that went out, painted, and then had to wait weeks to develop the film containing the proofs of what I had created.
Today, I still enjoy color, painting, and the very act of expressing myself freely on walls, keeping alive that essence that drove me since I was a child.
