PESTES began his journey in the urban universe in 2009, immersed in the HIP-HOP movement, where he found his artistic path in the art of letters. From the beginning, his focus has always been calligraphy, exploring and delving deeper into the different forms of writing and letter stylization. With the artistic name “Pestes”, his first contact with the universe of urban arts was through pixação, an aggressive and disruptive visual language that connects the artist to urban space in a visceral way.
His artistic evolution was marked by the transition to other writing techniques and styles, such as bomb, tag, pixo, grapixo and piece — distinct forms that, although they have their own characteristics, share the same principle: the expression of identity through writing. In all these variations, calligraphy remained the core of his work, and letters were his main vehicle of communication and innovation.
In 2018, Pestes expanded his artistic universe by delving deeper into the art of tattooing. This new challenge brought a new technical approach to his research on calligraphy and its rules. It was during this period that the artist began to develop a variety of custom fonts, with an emphasis on styles such as cursive, gothic and dark, creating original and innovative fonts that blend the aesthetics of graffiti with the principles of traditional calligraphy.
In 2020, Pestes founded Chanfro Gang, a graffiti crew made up of colleagues who share the same passion for letters and calligraffiti — a fusion between graffiti and calligraphy, where the letter becomes the protagonist, but without losing the aggressiveness and spontaneity of traditional graffiti. Chanfro Gang thus seeks to reinterpret writing and its forms, exploring new languages ​​and perspectives in public space.
Furthermore, Pestes is a member of the Suprema Calligraphy Crew, a global crew dedicated to the art of calligraphy, which connects artists from different parts of the world in a network of knowledge exchange and visual experimentation. Suprema is a community where the art of writing and personalizing letters transcends the urban context, expanding to multiple supports and artistic experiments. Throughout his career, Pestes has established himself as a visionary artist, focusing on writing as a form of expression and identity. His work, which dialogues with the urban and contemporary, continues to evolve, challenging the boundaries of calligraphy, graffiti and the art of personalizing letters. His trajectory is a testimony to the strength of writing as a form of individual and collective expression, capable of reinventing itself and conquering new spaces in urban art and visual culture.
