Marcus Poste, a.k.a. Sr. Poste, Angolan born and raised in 1984, with a couple of Portuguese ribs. I am a Designer by training and an Illustrator / Graffiti Writer / Street Artist by passion.
My childhood was spent in Angola, but almost all of my academic career was in Portugal. There I also began my artistic journey on the streets of Porto, painting graffiti, making strong friendships and joining some crews from which I still draw inspiration today. In 2013 I returned to Luanda permanently and there I discovered my true artistic voice and visual language.
My visual style is marked by characters with strong references to Angolan traditional crafts and folklore (a fascination that has been with me since a young age), mixing them with multiple elements of African fauna and flora, while at the same time dressed in the aesthetics and flow of European graffiti from the late 90s and early 2000s.
I can define my style as an intimate relationship with the era of the graffiti’s golden years (95-2010), combined with the undeniable inspiration of all the cartoons and comic book illustrations that any child of the 80s was exposed to.
GRAFFRICAN / Graffricanism – the aesthetic philosophy that defines a style of graffiti rooted in the African cultural and visual universe serves as both the starting and ending point for finding the answers we need to establish our place as African artists in the world of graffiti and modern art.
