Malik (*1977 in Aarau) is a Swiss urban art artist with roots in the graffiti scene of the early 1990s. Inspired by hip-hop subculture, the spray can quickly became his preferred means of expression. After completing his secondary education (Matura), he attended the preparatory design course in Basel and began studying art in Bern, which he left early to pursue his own artistic path.
A versatile all-rounder, Malik combines painting, graffiti, illustration, and object art. His work is characterized by a fusion of diverse techniques, a profound engagement with social issues, and a tension between comedy and tragedy. For Malik, the concept takes center stageโhe aims to inspire independent thinking in the viewer rather than impose a fixed message.
One of his most significant projects is 4661mยฒ โ art in prison, in which he and other artists transformed an entire prison into a comprehensive street art installation. Since 2012, he has been commissioned by cantonal justice departments to redesign several prisons artistically. Since 2020, under the label mzwei, he has been offering professional wall and interior designs together with Claude Luethi.
Malikโs work stands for creative freedom, pushing boundaries, and deep reflection on the human conditionโpowerful, multi-layered, and always open to interpretation.
