A French muralist based in the UK, Leroy has been developing a unique, vibrant, and organic body of work for over twenty years. A self-taught artist, he draws his inspiration from nature, which he explores through colorful, dynamic murals deeply rooted in their environment.
In the early 2000s, he honed his skills in the Parisian urban landscape, painting the city’s walls and trains. This formative period, marked by the raw energy of graffiti and lettering, shaped his relationship with the city and with monumental painting. In 2004, he chose to settle in England, where he continued for several years to focus primarily on lettering, refining his style and mastery of form.
A decisive turning point came in 2010. A trip to Southeast Asia, followed by a year spent in New Zealand, led him to rethink his artistic practice. To avoid the risks associated with local legislation, but also driven by a profound need for renewal, he temporarily turned away from murals to dedicate himself to drawing and watercolor, which he learned entirely on his own. This immersion in more intimate mediums, combined with the omnipresence of spectacular nature in New Zealand, opened up a new creative field and profoundly influenced his visual world.
Returning to England in 2011, Leroy gradually reintegrated animals and plants into his murals, slowly moving away from pure lettering towards figurative compositions where flora and fauna take center stage. Alongside his full-time job, he continued to draw every evening, patiently nurturing an ever-evolving practice. He then collaborated with the Colchester City Council, creating several murals in exchange for materials, an experience that strengthened his local ties and his desire to work in public spaces. In 2022, the bankruptcy of the company he worked for, a direct consequence of a “hard Brexit,” acted as a catalyst. He then decided to fully commit to being an independent artist. Since then, he has created paid murals and collaborated extensively with municipalities, businesses, and individuals. Often accompanied by his children on his projects, he finds in this transmission of knowledge and in family bonds a major source of inspiration, as well as in nature, which remains the beating heart of his artistic work.
