Djoulay La Papaye
Feminist, engaged street artist & creative entrepreneur
Born in 1981 in the south of France, Julie Faucon—also known as Djoulay La Papaye—is a free-spirited, colorful, and committed artist. A passionate self-taught creator, she chose in 2019 to make a full living from her art and to embrace creativity as her path to freedom.
Drawn to the energy of street art, she swaps the paintbrush for the spray can to express herself on walls. Curious and bold, she explores stencil work and paste-ups, blending these techniques with acrylics—her medium of choice. Between canvas and wall, she relentlessly pursues her search for emotion and space—always bigger, always stronger.
Inspired by her travels to the islands and her mixed roots, Djoulay draws strength from her experiences to shape her universe. In 2020, her commitment takes form: Woman becomes her muse, and Femininity her central theme.
In 2022, following the outbreak of the Russia–Ukraine conflict, she created a monumental mural in Paris (13th arrondissement), measuring 5 m x 2.5 m, titled “For Women & For Peace,” joining 50 international street artists mobilized for peace.
Always on the move, she founded Street-Art Class, a traveling workshop introducing graffiti and urban painting. With her Art Caravan, she tours the south of France to share her passion with schools, municipalities, companies, and associations.
Since November 2024, she has also led the feminist cultural association PurpleFire, which works in schools, events, and festivals through punchy creative workshops. These actions aim to raise awareness, spark reflection, and encourage free expression around feminism, tolerance, and equality.
Her artistic signature also comes through in her Doodle Texte technique—a dialogue between writing and painting. Each artwork begins with a text—sometimes borrowed, sometimes written by herself—that inspires or extends the painting. A QR code placed at the bottom of each mural lets viewers discover the associated text and enter a complete artistic experience, blending words, image, and emotion.
Committed, radiant, and unifying, Djoulay La Papaye turns the wall into a space for dialogue, emotion, and freedom.
