Binho Barreto is a visual artist, researcher and professor in the Department of Drawing at the School of Fine Arts at UFMG, where he conducts research on mural art and original comics. He began his career in graffiti in 1995. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from Escola Guignard/UEMG (2010), and a master’s degree (2016) and a doctorate (2022) in Architecture and Urbanism from UFMG, with the thesis Dialectics of the streets: urban art etc., a study on urban art from a socio-spatial perspective.
โIn his exhibition career, he has held the solo shows Tempo Um (Casa Gal, 2021, BH), Nado Raso (BDMG Cultural, 2013, BH) and Flanador (Coletivo Galeria, 2007, SP). He has participated in the group shows Temporada de verรฃo (Casa Gal, 2022, BH), Um erro surpresa aconteceu (Galeria Periscรณpio, 2019, BH), Simbio (Palรกcio das Artes, 2012, BH), 400ml (Maison des Mรฉtallos, 2008, Paris), Os Brasileiros (Carmichael Gallery, 2008, LA) and So Many Selves (Carmichael Gallery, 2007, LA).
โHe is the author of four books: Perimetro urbano (2016), Comboio (2019), O livro dos vivos (2019) and Gigantes e Monstros (2021) โ the book Perimetro urbano was adopted by the City of Sรฃo Paulo for EJA and reprinted by order of the City of Belo Horizonte for municipal public libraries.
Currently, he continues to develop research that articulates his urban artistic practice with academic reflections, maintaining active production in illustration, drawing, painting and street art.
