Raised in Miami, Florida from the age of three, Jon Mendelson grew up surrounded by the vibrant pulse of the city’s art, culture, and rhythm. A graduate of Florida International University, where he earned his BFA, Jon’s artistic foundation was shaped by the natural energy of South Florida and the electric atmosphere that defines Miami’s visual and musical landscape.
Deeply influenced by Miami’s mural and public art traditions, Jon draws inspiration from the city’s rich cultural mosaic which blends the bold, expressive color of Wynwood’s street art, the bohemian spirit of Coconut Grove, and the layered histories and rhythms of Little Havana. Bridging the rich, nostalgic landscapes of the Florida Highwaymen with the vivid colors and dynamic energy of Miami’s graffiti scene, his work reflects the vitality of these environments, merging organic forms with urban intensity to create pieces that celebrate diversity, motion, and place.
After starting a family in Miami, Jon relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, his wife’s hometown. There, he discovered a new and dynamic community of public artists. The move sparked a revitalization of his creative practice, offering fresh opportunities to collaborate and connect through art. Since arriving, Jon has worked closely with several of Fort Wayne’s established public art organizations, contributing murals that enliven neighborhoods and public spaces across the city.
Through his art, Jon continues to bridge the vibrant spirit of Miami with the collaborative community energy of Fort Wayne, honoring both places through color, movement, and neighborhood engagement. His murals stand as testaments to the power of art to connect cultures, inspire creativity, and transform shared spaces into stories of collective identity.
