My name is Eva van der Klei, I am 19 years old, and I create paintings, murals, and TikTok videos. Murals are my favorite way of working, and I truly want to make a name for myself in this field. In my work, I often use bright colors, but I’m also not afraid to step away from that pattern when necessary. I try to create my art in a way that grabs attention, something people can’t just walk past, especially with my murals.
My style is mostly realistic, but I sometimes mix it with abstract or impressionistic elements. I enjoy using spray paint for my murals and use markers, acrylic paints, and pencils for drawings. What’s important to me is that you can always see a bit of my ‘signature’ in the work, like loose lines. It shows a beautiful part of the process.
I am inspired by other artists, especially by their perseverance and the success they achieve, even when things aren’t always easy. I am a woman and queer, and although I sometimes find myself in unsafe or uncomfortable situations, I don’t easily let them throw me off course. For me, art is a way to express myself. Sometimes I make conceptual work, but mostly because it’s a part of who I am.
I’ve exhibited in various places, including Utrecht, Amsterdam, Zwaag, Delft, and Hoorn, and I’m known from the TV show De Nieuwe Vermeer, which I won. My work can be seen on the streets and in exhibitions, and I hope that people feel drawn to my art and can’t look away.
