Anders Reventlov/AGORA is a Danish visual artist (b.1984). He graduated from the Jutland Academy of Fine Arts in Aarhus, Denmark (2004-2009), and lives currently in Malmo, Sweden.
Anders Reventlov is working at the intersection of drawing, writing, and action. Using primarily black and white, his practice reclaims the handwritten mark and the signature as acts of presence and resistance in a hyper-digitalized world. Drawing from automatic writing and his own method, Traces of Actions, Reventlov transforms collected gestural marks from public spaces into abstract “letterscapes” based on the word AGORA, meaning both ‘now’ and ‘a place of gathering.
Anders Reventlov, who has developed his practice from within graffiti culture since the 1990s and is now regarded as a key figure in the Scandinavian scene, understands writing as an immediate act. His work consistently moves between drawing and signature, between individual gesture and collective visual language. Despite his academic training, he is deeply rooted in the logic of writing and continually expands upon it towards abstract compositions. At the heart of his work lies the idea of ‘writing as action’: the handwritten trace as evidence of presence in an increasingly digitalised world. The lines, marks and clusters in space follow Reventlov’s method of ‘traces of actions’, a kind of cartographic collage of collected and transformed movements.
The artistic journey that began with name writing has led to many exhibitions at museums and galleries in Denmark as well as Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Japan, USA and the Netherlands. Anders Reventlov’s works are included in the Danish Art foundations collection.
Anders Reventlov is currently represented by Urban spree gallery in Berlin, Unruly Gallery in Amsterdam and Mural.inc in Rotterdam.
