Jason Schell

American surrealist painter and street artist. Originally from Pennsylvania (USA), Jason teaches art and design in Shanghai, China. Before that he worked in Mexico City where he exhibited, painted murals, street art, and DJed.

“Surrealism, searching for the ethereal in everyday life, the subconscious undercurrent that is present yet invisible, and juxtaposition are themes in my work… I use my work as a way to interpret my surroundings, geek-out on the formal qualities of art making and reflect on our relationship with each other and with the planet. I’m an art history nerd and I have a passion for painting street art and murals. My work is often an interplay between what I paint on walls outside and on canvas inside my studio. I think that the vibrant colors, illustrations and paint in my artwork exemplify that.”
